BOOT CAMP
What I learned the most in English 101 Boot Camp was that Thesis Sentences can be more affective and easier to craft when longer. I remember I spent countless times rewriting thesis sentences, not because my ideas were missing, but to make everything all fit into one sentence. This Boot Camp also alerted me that English as a subject officially is being taught terribly nation wide. I used to think it was just my school? I also learned that essays can break the 5 paragraph mold without consequece. This just reinvigorated my anger for my English teacher last year who gave me a C because I wrote in a four paragraph format instead of five...GRRRRRRR....

All highschools gave us the same rules for writing I had no idea could be broken! I have had the same problem getting marked down on papers in high school for not following the rules! Good thing we are learning now that thesis statements can be more then one sentence so you don't have to go crazy fitting everything into one sentence anymore!
ReplyDeleteVery true... I've always been under the impression that our thesis sentence had to be just one sentence too. I wish that all of the english departments stuck with a set of rules and didn't change it on us once we got to college!
